Dan Levy Joins Clea DuVall's Queer Rom-Com Starring Kristen Stewart

 The Schitt's Creek star joins the anticipated romantic comedy that stars Stewart and Mackenzie Davis as girlfriends. 

hristmas can’t come soon enough now that it’s been announced that Schitt’s Creek’s out creator and star Dan Levy has signed on to costar in the queer-themed rom-com Happiest Seasonstarring Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate, Halt and Catch Fire). If that weren’t enough of a gay Christmas, out actress Clea DuVall is helming the TriStar Pictures project. 

Happiest Season tells the story of Stewart’s character, who plans a surprise marriage proposal to her girlfriend (Davis) while they’re home for the holidays, only to discover that her girlfriend is not out to her conservative family.

Also joining the cast are GLOW’s Alison Brie and Parks and Recreation’s Aubrey Plaza, according to Deadline, although there’s no news yet as to the roles they or Levy will play. Mary Steenburgen and Victor Garber have been added to the cast as Davis’s character’s parents.

DuVall, a favorite with queer women since she starred as a baby lesbian in 1999’s conversion therapy satire But I’m a Cheerleader, directs the film from a script she penned with her writing partner Mary Holland. Happiest Season marks DuVall’s second foray into directing a comedy feature, the first being 2016’s The Intervention, a modern take on The Big Chill that starred DuVall, Melanie Lynskey, Natasha Lyonne, Cobie Smulders, Alia Shawkat, and Jason Ritter.

Happiest Season is set for release in November.
