Marvel tease a queer storyline in new trailer

The New Mutants is rumoured to feature the second same-sex relationship in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams is set to star in the upcoming superhero horror, The New Mutants, as a character called Wolfsbane. Described as a mutant “struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs with her power to turn into a wolf”.

There are lots of reasons to be excited for The New Mutants, but there’s one aspect in particular we are most excited about after seeing the latest trailer.

It shows a clear hint at a potential queer storyline, as Wolfsbane holds Moonstar’s head and appears to be leaning in for a kiss.

Looking like a pretty intimate and romantic moment, it would align with earlier reports that the characters would be queer.

The film is set for release in 2020, and the brand new trailer definitely leads us to believe that the final cut will see Wolfsbane in a queer relationship with Moonstar, another mutant.

This would make The New Mutants the second Marvel film to feature a same-sex couple after Deadpool 2, which showed Negasonic Teenage Warhead in a relationship with Yukio.

Deadpool 2 was the last film to be made before Disney acquired the assets, which now allows X-Men characters to enter into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It has also been rumoured that The New Mutants will drop all references to the previous X-Men continuity, in case Marvel decide to make the film part of their own cinematic universe.
