'Nina's Heavenly Delights' inspired by real-life lesbian love story

"I wrote the story, which, in the main, was inspired by falling in love with my partner," says Pratibha Parmar in an interview. "Her background was that she grew up in an Indian family who owned a restaurant, and we met each other when we agreed to cook dinner for a group of Indian friends." It was over spirited discussions about what to make and how to make it that, Parmar says, she and her partner fell in love.

Nina Shah is a feisty young Indo–Scottish woman with an identity crisis. Nina previously left home under a cloud after a row with her father. When her father dies suddenly, Nina is forced to return and run the family owned Curry House. This reunites her with her childhood friend Bobbi, a Bollywood drag queen and brings her face to face with Lisa, a charismatic young woman to whom Nina's father sold 50% of the restaurant.

Gebaseerd op een waar gebeurd verhaal.
Een jonge vrouw keert terug naar Glasgow, om daar het curryrestaurant van haar pas overleden vader te gaan runnen. Het zit haar echter niet mee en haar nieuwe leven valt haar zwaar. De komst van een onverwachte relatie biedt echter weer wat afleiding.
