A lesbian couple got engaged at a Harry Potter event promoting Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

JK Rowling has congratulated a lesbian couple, after they got engaged at a Harry Potter event promoting Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald.

Steph Bennett, 26, proposed to her girlfriend Emily Scouler, 25, at the Harry Potter-inspired Fantastic Beasts: Wizarding World Wands at Peter’s Hill, in the City of London, on Wednesday night (November 7).

Bennet got down on one knee—surrounded by nine illuminated giant wands—before popping the question to Scouler, who said “yes.”

Their engagement was followed by a military marching band, the Grenadier Guards, who played music from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films.

Rowling sent her best wishes to the happy couple, who are from Buxton in Derbyshire.

“Congratulations, Steph and Emily!,” Rowling wrote on Twitter.

According to the Fantastic Beasts Twitter account, it’s the second wedding proposal at the Wizarding World Wands installation.

“The #FantasticBeasts Wizarding World Wands installation saw its second marriage proposal last night!,” the Fantastic Beasts Twitter account posted.

“Congratulations to Steph and Emily from Buxton on their magical engagement.”

Heather Pearson pops the question to her girlfriend and fellow Harry Potter fan Kelsey Stacy.

Another lesbian couple stages a Harry Potter-themed proposal

It comes after a proud Slytherin fan Heather Pearson proposed to her girlfriend and fellow Potterhead Kelsey Stacey in Portland, Oregon, USA.

Slytherin Heather Pearson, of Portland, decided to pop the question to her girlfriend and fellow Potterhead, Kelsey Stacy on Halloween.

The couple both already owned wands and Slytherin cloaks, and in the run-up to the proposal Pearson convinced her fiancée-to-be to help plan a Harry Potter-themed Halloween party.

Pearson added: “Little did she know, she was planning her own engagement party as well!”

On the day of the party, Pearson revealed a Harry Potter scavenger hunt across Portland for her girlfriend, where Stacy was surprised by her friends, and the first three Harry Potter books containing personalised love letters from Harry Potter character Draco Malfoy.

The fourth book, the couple’s favourite, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was located back at their apartment, where Pearson was waiting, dressed as Draco Malfoy.

Pearson pulled out a ring and the copy of Goblet of Fire, which had been creatively folded so that the pages spelled out “Marry me?”

Stacy emotionally accepted the proposal to cheers from the pair’s friends.

The proposal won the heart of Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who shared it on Twitter.

Rowling said: “CONGRATULATIONS! 🌈 💕 🍾"
