Got to share this here on this Sunday. I am officially declaring this the Dame Shirley Sundae.
The album of the Dame starts off with falling in love with the person I'm holding in my arms. With the first signs of mortality on the day that I was born, the love I feel for her seems to last forever and ever. "..we're Almost There..."
Apartment is not my thing. But if you feel the spanish guitars go ahead and taste the beauty of this fairytale album, minus this song. She's running away from Dr No!
This Time the spell of Shirley Bassey will grab a lot of new fans. This timeless album, already an evergreen, grabs hold of me by the throat, it flies me up high and then gently touches me back down on terra firma, whereas Barbara didn't even lift my nose-wheel off the runway with her latest album release.
The strength of Dame Shirley's voice hasn't lost a spark of the exciting power it has always had. And if you take the time to watch the BBC special, where we were given a closer look at the sweat and tears it takes to make voice- art you will witness Shirley's pyrotechnics in person. Catherine Wheels and Crackerjacks galore. She owns the night sky and the explosions in your ears.
I Love You Now, a gigantic, real sixties ballad, was written by Nick Hodgson, the drummer of the KAISER CHIEFS. A favorite band of my once adolescent daughters when they were 14 years old.
She's always has been the best interpreter of John Barry's songs.
And also in this Our Time Is Now, you'd love to take her hand and walk with her into the dunes.
As God Is My Witness, there is not a song on this album that can't be played sitting beside our fireplace. Machas del Mundo, get yourself a copy of this regardless of whoever you would like to seduce, They won't be able to resist the temprament of her sometimes haunting voice, scolding from cheap chinese speakers in the shallow morning.
No Good About Goodbye, no solace of xtc pills or bouncing electronic beats. As if a Bond sweetheart could appear before your eyes only and knock you for 007 before you can say 'Goldfinger' .
The Girl From Tiger Bay is a song about her own childhood. It's a pity the Dame didn't write any of the songs herself. There is just one female writer on the whole album. And that's the song Nice Men, written by KT Tunstall.
But Shirley 'Diamonds are Forever' Bassey is forgiven and will never be forgotten by me ever.
